More Storage

چکیده
As populations grow and climates change, the water challenges that some regions will face over next 50 years may become existential threats. Water system sustainability need to rely on adaptation strategies address a range of challenges, from near-term threats flooding long-term struggles with drought. shortages are particular worry, current alarm in many areas shows how regional effects hotter drier days already stressing systems their customers. Fortunately, there supply-and-demand options available—these include improved use efficiency greater overall conservation, as well desalination reuse. But one area I believe gain attention is more storage. Increasing storage capacity allow effectively respond variations future supply demand. In addition operational capacity, can better capture stormwater, which would also alleviate problems related combined sewer overflows. an added benefit, create opportunities for energy generation. Surface projects somewhat rare because they take coordinate, investigate, permit. fact, goal remove dams, so creating new lakes be difficult. An easier route convert deep rock quarries into storage; if these resources available, achieve reasonable unit costs large volumes. any surface supply, evaporative losses, quality degrade time issues like algae growth or post-wildfire contamination. If geologic conditions aquifer characteristics allow, underground injection promising. Aquifer recovery (ASR)—banking when it available times not—is popular strategy augment existing groundwater supplies, attenuating reversing subsidence overpumping while minimizing evaporation. ASR especially attractive part indirect potable reuse (IPR). IPR, municipal wastewater treated and, this case, injected aquifer. project, collaboration environmental stewardship key, but IPR place, increase amount reliability Whatever approach utilities take, must compatibility, cost, community acceptance; success relies close coordination regulators leaders. My Cache or Yours? Making Storage More Exclusive
Modern high-end disk arrays often have several gigabytes of cache RAM. Unfortunately, most array caches use management policies which duplicate the same data blocks at both the client and array levels of the cache hierarchy: they are inclusive. Thus, the aggregate cache behaves as if it was only as big as the larger of the client and array caches, instead of as large as the sum of the two. Incl...

متن کاملMore affordable electrolytic LaNi5-type hydrogen storage powders.
Compounding between NiO and La(2)O(3) protects the latter from water and molten salt attack, and ensures successful direct electrolytic conversion of the oxide precursors, in the solid state, to more affordable LaNi(5)-type hydrogen storage materials.
متن کاملMore than one thousand tips for future AFM data storage
We report on a new atomic force microscope (AFM)-based data storage concept called the “Millipede” that has a potentially ultrahigh density, terabit capacity, small form factor, and high data rate. Its potential for ultrahigh storage density has been demonstrated by a new thermomechanical local-probe technique to store and read back data in very thin polymer films. With this new technique, 30–4...
متن کاملVitamin D and adipose tissue—more than storage
The pandemic increase in obesity is inversely associated with vitamin D levels. While a higher BMI was causally related to lower 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), no evidence was obtained for a BMI lowering effect by higher 25(OH)D. Some of the physiological functions of 1,25(OH)2D3 (1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol or calcitriol) via its receptor within the adipose tissue have been investigated such...
